Could you spot a money mule scam?

July 20, 2026

Many young people believe scams only happen to other people. The reality is that organised criminals deliberately target students and young adults through social media, fake job adverts, online gaming and even people they know.

Barclays UK visited us recently to deliver an engaging and eye-opening session to our Year 12 students on Money Mules, Money Laundering, and Investment Scams.

Students explored:

  • What a money mule is and how criminals recruit young people.
  • How seemingly harmless requests, such as transferring money or using your bank account for someone else, can have life changing consequences.
  • How investment scams and “too good to be true” job offers are used to target young people.
  • The long-term impact on their future, including closed bank accounts, damaged credit ratings, difficulty accessing financial products and potential criminal convictions.

A key reminder for our students was that if something seems too good to be true, it probably is. Taking a moment to question an offer today could protect your financial future for years to come.

Sessions like these equip our students with essential knowledge and vital for life beyond school.
