Personal Development programme

The Watling Academy Sixth Form Tutorial Programme is designed to support the personal and professional development of Year 12 and 13 students, equipping them with essential life skills, career guidance, and workplace preparation. The programme also focuses on local opportunities and examples from Milton Keynes to make learning relevant and actionable. The sessions, delivered twice a week for 30 minutes by Sixth Form Mentors and through assemblies, ensure that students are well-prepared for adult life.

The Sixth Form Tutorial programme will include 

  • Making Year Sixth Form a success.

    • Routines for learning. 
    • Organisation. 
    • Effective note taking. 
  • Vision and Goal Setting:
    • Exploring career options and pathways with local employers such as Nifty Lift, Red Bull Racing and Network Rail. 
    • Identifying personal values, strengths, and interests. Sessions with guest speakers from local industries, such as finance and technology sectors. 
  • Effort and Time Management:
    • Growth mindset and the importance of effort.  
    • Strategies to maintain motivation. Group activities and peer support to overcome procrastination. 
    • Systems and E-Safety 
    • Establishing study systems and routines.  
    • Tips for improving productivity using digital tools. 
    • E-safety and digital literacy, including understanding online privacy, cyberbullying, and digital footprints. 
    • Using professional networking platforms.
